Garfield named Washington State Recognized School

Garfield Elementary School was recognized by the Washington School Recognition Program for outstanding growth during the 2024-25 school year. Garfield earned statewide recognition for the strong progress made by low-income students, who ranked among the top 10% of schools in Washington for growth in math and attendance.

The recognition highlighted Garfield’s commitment to helping every student succeed through strong support, meaningful relationships, and high-quality instruction. Only 16% of schools across Washington received recognition this year, making the honor a significant achievement for the Garfield community.

The Washington School Recognition Program honors schools for achievement, growth, and closing gaps. Schools recognized for growth demonstrate some of the largest student gains in the state across measures such as academic performance, attendance, and graduation rates.

Garfield’s recognition reflected the hard work and dedication of students, staff, and families who worked together to create a positive and supportive learning environment.

Superintendent Ian Saltzman praised the school community for its commitment to student success.

“I am very proud of our staff for their continued dedication and hard work for student success,” Saltzman said. “The recognition of three of our schools for achievement and growth highlights our district’s deep commitment to student learning and continuous improvement.”

Garfield Elementary also received a banner from the State Board of Education in partnership with Northwest Educational Service District 189 to celebrate this important accomplishment.
